So I'm just a little sulky and annoyed with the universe (and quite frankly, the bit where we have a rent inspection happening next Thursday, on top of me also having jury duty coming up next week, is just the fucking cherry on top of a shit sundae). I'll get over it. But I'm going to pout for a couple of days more.

Jury duty may well be cancelled due to COVID. Other States are shutting down jury trials, and it looks like we're going to follow suit:

"Courts shut down some operations

WA's Supreme Court this morning announced all new jury trials due to start today would be adjourned until tomorrow due to concerns over COVID-19.

A decision will be made later today on whether they will proceed.

Jurors who arrived this morning were told to go home and asked to return tomorrow if required.

In a statement, Chief Justice Peter Quinlan said members of the public were requested not to attend court if they were not required to be there.

"Wherever possible, all directions hearings, case management conferences and strategic conferences will be conducted by telephone," he said.

Justice Quinlan said while civil trials would continue as listed, criminal trials were under review.

The high-profile Claremont serial killings trial is about halfway through its estimated seven months of hearings and is due to resume on Monday.

It is not yet clear how it will be impacted by the new arrangements."

Well, yeah, I got a letter on Thursday saying the jury duty was cancelled - "due to changes in trial arrangements for that week", or some such careful bureaucratic phrasing to cover over the fact everyone in the office was running around in all directions as though their hair was on fire. Which meant I was able to tell everyone at work (including HR, who had me on leave for the duration of the jury duty) that I would be at work on Monday, as scheduled. But: short notice, and my autism spectrum brain which likes having a nice steady routine, are not things which work well together.
