Dear gods. And I thought some of the US suburban sprawl issues were, well, issues! (Like, I think I took over an hour just to get across town once, in Austin. It was traumatic. And I know public transport there is pathetic. And it ain't so hot up here in the New England area I'm in, either, though at least one can generally get to the local university pretty well...)
And if all the jobs are in the city, then even a TinyHouse isn't going to work, is it...
(Someone with a parking-garage-sized plot of land in/very near the city could probably make a killing on "urban camper," it strikes me. Park your own camper of no more than X size, hook up to utilities (charge an arm and a leg for utilities, but hey, NO HOME INSPECTIONS!), abide by "don't do anything illegal while you're on the grounds" regulations, and presto. Rent mailboxes across the street. Have a rent-a-cop patrol the area to reduce theft issues.)
