Oh, I'm already fed up enough to start seriously thinking about Linux distributions. I'm just going to wait until I've actually finished all the assessment I need the computer for. Then that second partition on the computer is getting hosed, and I'm installing Ubuntu. Seriously, the silly thing has a maximum screen resolution when I'm hosting a single display of 1366 by 768 pixels, which winds up being less available screen real estate than I've had since I was using Windows 3.11 on a rather grumpy 14" CRT.
Windows 7 is definitely Windows Large Print edition.
Oh, and another interesting little wrinkle that I haven't quite figured out yet - if I connect this new laptop up to the existing flat screen monitor I have (which can handle 1680 x 1050 pixels as the recommended setting), I can't actually shut the lid on the laptop case. If I do, the silly thing turns itself off. So I can't get away with the trick I used with the previous laptop, of just leaving the lid down except for the points where I have to turn it on, meanwhile having a keyboard, mouse and monitor plugged into various connectors. I intend to look *very* hard at the user documentation (all online, of course) in order to find out why this is the case. In the meantime, the main screen is being used as a temporary storage spot, while all the serious work happens on the secondary screen.
