Well, I've lucked out in a little way - the new GP I've just seen today turns out to have come to general practice straight from six months working mental health at Freo Hospital. Which meant she was willing to act as though I might just be the expert about what's going on in the inside of my head, and listen to me. She wrote me out a med cert for the next couple of weeks without too much fuss (I have another appointment to see her in a couple of weeks, once I've got the wheels back onto my system, so to speak), and recommended on it that I get a new job capacity assessment done (so Centrelink can damn well take official notice of me not be suited for full time work, drattit).
She's also said she's going to look into what my options are for getting a hearing test done (because I actually want some kind of recognition for the auditory overload problems, thanks), and explained what my options are for getting a new eye test done (basically, if I haven't had one in the last couple of years, I can walk into an optometrist's office, and get one bulk-billed to Medicare). Looks like I have a good one here, and I'm not going to lose track of her!
As for Nursing? Not on your ruddy nelly. There are enough of the women in my extended family who have been nurses, or who have trained as nurses to make me well and truly aware that Nursing Is Not For Me. For one thing, why the hells would I want to go into a profession where I'll never be better than second banana, no matter how damn good I am? For a second, I'm not going to try and find a bloody nursing program which would accept someone studying part time around the practical stuff which has to be done (I believe they have it in line for Sisyphus, next on his list after figuring out how to qualify for DSP or its equivalent in every single social security system worldwide).
